Are there different types of Low-E coatings?

Yes, there are two main types: 

1. Hard Coat  

• Applied during glass manufacturing while the glass is still hot. 
• More durable but less efficient than soft coat Low-E. 
• Often used in single glazing or colder climates where solar heat gain is beneficial. 

1. Soft Coat  

• Applied after the glass is manufactured in a vacuum chamber. 
• More efficient at insulating and reducing heat transfer. 
• Typically used in double and triple glazing for superior thermal performance. 
• Glasscraft primarily uses Planitherm as it is a soft coat Low-E glass that can achieve lower U values than a hard coat.
